What we eat in Germany

Well, this might not be what you expected to see. I just had some delicious Bibimbap from our neighborhood Asian supermarket.

Most families looked rather happy, though the German family (slide 15 of 16) looked as grumpy as ever. Despite all the beer and wine bottles featured on the table.

Whiten your Skin at Twilight

One of my students returned from a trip to California with this little Korean-made Beauty Compact Slicer, measuring 12.5 cm x 7 cm (5″x 3″) in size.

To soften and whiten your skin

The first thing I noticed was the woman’s forehead with cucumber slices. Very thinly sliced with this gadget, they stay up. This reminded me of my teenage years, when I used regular-sliced cucumber slices to soften my skin. But I had to apply them lying down, in hiding from my mom, as cucumbers where meant for eating in a household where nine people needed to get fed.

What also caught my attention was the slicer’s suggestions on the back: * Ideal for slicing natural ingredient, such as cucumber, potato, kiwi, etc.

Potato and kiwi for your skin? This got me curious and since then I have learned:

To whiten your skin

* Apply potato or kiwi slices (thinly sliced)

To reduce pigmentation of freckles

* Apply the rind of a watermelon (thinly sliced)

For some reason, I got this present at the same time I started reading Twilight (upon the insistence of my teenage daughter). There is so much talk of white skin, porcelain complexion, and pale faces;

By the way, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Easy to read, hard to put down, and my daughter and I now share notes about it. Twilight: Volume 1 (Amazon.de) Twilight (The Twilight Saga) (Amazon.com)

… it’s a sunny day for once in Germany. I think I’ll go and soak up some sun shine!
