Haruyo koi – a beautiful reminder of Japan
Back in the early 90s living in Japan, we often heard the song Haruyo koi and I fell in love with it. With haru (spring) and hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in full bloom at the moment and my flight to Japan being only four days away, it is only natural that this song keeps coming back with a nostalgic feeling.

That was a nice spring song. Have a great time in Japan. I am sure Thomas will enjoy all the people and sites. How will he handle the food? Please say hello to anyone who remembers me. I will be visiting in July!

Thomas should have no problems handling the food, because the majority of our cooking is Asian (mostly Korean). We have an Asian shop in the neighborhood where we buy our 20 pound sack of rice, we get gyoza, nikuman, yakiniku, etc (all Korean style). Our rice-cooker is very busy as well.
One funny experience I want to relate is about the “International Food Day” we have at the international school once a year. Students are supposed to bring some food, sweet or savory, to represent their home country.
For quite a few years Thomas insisted on bringing gyoza and nori snack packs to represent his home country. We finally convinced him that Japan was “only” his birthplace…..
The Japanese food is one of the things he is looking forward to the most.

Liebe Maria,

WOW~~
So the words you’ve said 13 years ago are becoming true!!
A similar thing happened to my family when we had said we were going to come back sometime when we left Germany in 1996 and we did!
Does Thomas remember being in Japan?? He was too young by that time, wasn’t he?
I hope you have a great time in Japan and meet many people from the past! Make sure to get all the good food!
And of course, enjoy the other travels as well! (You’re travelling continuously~!)
Love,
Lee Young
ps. This is a great website you’ve created… It must give you much work!

ich freue mich sehr auf Japan, da es schon wieder 13 Jahre zurück liegt.
Bin sehr gespannt, wie sich alles verändert hat oder auch nicht.

Hi – very great site you have established. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to publish a remark to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically pleasing. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor in chief for a merchandising firm. I have always enjoyed working with computing machines and am trying to learn computer code in my free time (which there is never enough of lol).

Really admirable post. Theoretically I could write something like this too, but taking the time and effort to make a good article is a lot of effort…but what can I say….I’m a procrastinater. Good read though.
