Vacation Rental in Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace

This summer, we spent our holiday in Dambach-la-Ville. We had been to this village once before on a three-day stay in the fall of 2019. We fell in love with it then, and decided to come back for a week this time.

Our accommodation was a renovated farmhouse on the main road in the center of the village. Our proprietors are such kind hosts, we had all the amenities one needed, and we truly enjoyed every minute there.

Here are a few pictures of the farmhouse interior.

We had the courtyard to ourselves during that time as well. I made the most of it by sitting out there in the early mornings with my coffee.

The morning light comes streaming in, and I happened to catch a local passing by.

The early mornings were also cool enough to do some quilting.

If you are interested in this place, then look for Le Cocon du Potier, 13 Rue du Maréchal Foch in Dambach-la-Ville. I can highly recommend it.

The Punch Tavern on Fleet Street in London

For the first time ever, we decided not to stay in a hotel, but a rental apartment while in London. We chose a good location on Fleet Street to make it walking distance to LSE for our travel purpose.

The frame above the door features the character Punch. Too bad I had just seen one like it, but with a white mask! There he was in broad daylight in a car near Fleet Street… He reminded me of one of the murder cases in the detective show Elementary which we like to watch.

The Punch Tavern features 70 different types of Gin. I tried the London Dry, Beefeater, and Bombay Sapphire. I’ve done my share. It took me two nights to down three of them.

This was their vegetarian version of the Caesar Salad. My husband enjoyed his Shepherd’s Pie.

I opted for the Punch Baby breakfast, which was enough. At least, I got the beans and sausage with it.

The rental place above the Punch Tavern is in a good location. It was clean and comfortable. There are four windows in the apartment, but they only point to grey walls of more holes in the wall. But we weren’t there for the view anyway. I would stay there again.

While there, we also realized why we had to leave a GBP 500 safety deposit. Now we know, but this will be our secret. 🙂 The deposit was returned to us in full right away. We had been good.

Places to Visit in the Alsace Region: Mittelbergheim

Riquewihr, Alsace

Riquewihr, Alsace

If you leave Oberursel (Taunus) early in the morning, you can make it to StraĂźbourg within two hours. From there, via bee line, it is only another 30 km to Mittelbergheim.

On LinkedIn, I found Jean Paul Krebs’s blog post Alsace Wine Route: open wine cellars in Mittelbergheim.

Thanks to his photos, plans have been made to visit the Alsace again this summer. We probably won’t be there when the wine cellars are open, but it is still worth a visit. It has been described as a charming little town, perched on a limestone hill and sheltered by vineyards.

This photo is from our last trip to the Alsace, which took us to Riquewihr in October 2014, where we had a very nice vacation rental apartment (my review).

I do not obtain any free services or products in exchange for promoting anything here. This is just to let you know about things I’ve learned that has made travel better, more comfortable, and more fun.

Review on Holiday Rental in Maasholm

For our summer holiday, we rented the ground floor apartment called GroĂźer Onkel in this house. There are three apartments available; one on the ground floor, the top floor and another one in the back in the back. Our apartment had the most splendid view over the Schlei Bay – you can see the sun setting light reflected in the windows.

We had our holiday before the official beginning of summer break for the German schools, so rates were decent. We paid about 1100 euro for a two-week rental.

Maasholm is a quiet fishing village and it remained quiet until we left mid-July, that’s when the first German states started their summer break.

View onto the dining area and living room. This is a spacious arrangement and the four windows made it an airy place.

The evening view, with the sun setting over the Schlei Bay, made it very memorable.

I enjoyed many evenings sitting there by the window with the last rays of sunshine. A good book, my feet propped up, and the stillness of the evenings made my holiday complete.

This fire place was an added feature, which of course, we did not use during the record breaking temps of 32°C while we were there. But it made the place cozy, nevertheless.

This was my favorite spot every morning. Not with the wine bottle, but a cup of coffee. 🙂 As the sun came around in the morning till early afternoon, this was a sunny place to spend my time reading.

Terrasse

The things I missed in this place were a toaster and internet connection. I got pretty good at toasting bread in the frying pan and for internet connection, I used the hot spot at the Maasholm Yachthafen (a two-minute walk away).

It was a perfect holiday – the location was beautiful and quiet, the restaurants served good food, and people were very friendly. This was the first time ever I thought to myself, “I could stay longer”.

Review for Vacation Rental in Lunenburg, NS

This accommodation was the last one on our road tour through parts of Canada and the USA. Not only was it the last one, but also the best one.

We had stayed in hotels, motels, lodges, vacation homes, vacation apartments, and in a boat house. All that in 18 days.

This apartment my husband had booked via homeaway.com and it was wonderful due to its location, spaciousness, and level of comfort. I especially enjoyed the sunny deck overlooking the Bluenose Wharf.

Lunenburg, NS

This was my favorite spot in the morning. Even though the apartment is right in the center of this UNESCO town, it is a rather quiet area.

deck

This loft-style apartment is spacious and allowed even for a work place area. The bedrooms were average size, and fortunately equipped with ceiling fans. It was very hot and humid one day, which was not the usual weather, so we had been told.

From the deck you can see big schooners,  sailboats,  and other vessels coming into the Bluenose Harbour.

Two things I recommend while in Lunenburg are: have dinner at the restaurant The Great Dane and take a sailboat tour on the Eastern Star (just walk down to the wharf to buy your tickets). Both events  are very memorable!
