Germany is so Green

Many foreign friends often mention how green Germany is.

What seems uncommon to outsiders is often no longer fully perceived by us long-term German dwellers. So I grabbed my camera yesterday in search of some green images and found plenty of it, everywhere.

Even the school entrance and parking lot of Frankfurt International School (FIS) seems to be overgrown by greenery.

There was a lot more green facing the other way, but I do love the view onto the Frankfurt skyline.

Last, but not least, some of our beer bottles are green too and blend perfectly into the environment.

We spent another Sunday afternoon in the garden. As always, there really isn’t that much to do except for raking leaves, barbecuing, and relaxing on the lounge chair. A hamlet in the wild, among trees, mountains, and ponds, does not require any real work.

I had a heavenly nap falling asleep to the sounds of birds singing and toads croaking in the pond just outside our garden.

A bit outside of Schloßborn, before turning on the dirt road leading to our garden, there is a new sign for drivers to watch for wandering toads.

Based on the decibel meter of the croaking toads coming from the pond, I would assume none of them had ventured out yet. They are safe as of now.

Primrose

This primrose plant I had thrown into a pile of bio waste years ago. It is such a sturdy plant, it comes up every year without any care whatsoever.

June Forest in Germany

Our forest garden, after almost four weeks of continuous rain, looks a bit like a jungle.

Wild flowers, such as lily of the valley are thriving in the permanent shade under the trees, and ferns are coming up in many new spots.

While searching for more photo opportunities, I found this little prisoner below.

A captive lily of the valley

One fallen dead leaf hindered the young leaves from unfolding. What’s worse – I took the photo and then walked away, forgetting to rid the plant of its strangler. My mind was deeply preoccupied with interpreting this situation, with too much focus on confinement, instead of freedom.
