Suetterlin – The old German handwriting

For anyone interested in Old German Script , this website is very useful.
I still had to learn this German handwriting style in school when I was in second grade (mid-sixties), and back then it was a mandatory subject.
Knowing this style is useful as it enables me to read books printed before 1941 (the year the Nazis declared this form of writing to be anti-nationalistic). My parents wrote this way for a long time and even when they used the modern Latin writing, one could still see the German handwriting’s “slant” in it.
Would you like to see your name in the old German script? Then click on: Write your name in Suetterlin
My husband is into genealogy and therefore my knowledge has proven itself useful a few times. Other than researching genealogy and being able to read old letters, there really is no need to know this form of handwriting. What a pity, though.
Today’s chat-room generation has no use for it.
