Much Ado about Beer, Bratwurst and Business in Oberursel, Germany

This past weekend we had another fest in Oberursel, this time titled Herbsttreiben, which could be interpreted as Autumn Welcome. This year’s motto was Oberursel unter Dampf (Steamed-up Oberursel), with engines on display dating back as far as 1881. Another special attraction was the Straßeneisenbahn (tram) named Blauer Klaus (Blue Nicholas or Drunk Nicholas…).

Yesterday, the town was quite busy with vendors lining up the streets of the Altstadt (downtown), here and there a few benches to relax, a jazz band playing at the corner, some kiddie rides, business promotions, old engines on display, craftspeople, etc. But mostly, and what the Germans are good at, this fest was meant for eating and drinking.

There are several spellings for the traditional Hessian apple wine: Eppelwoi, Appelwoi, Äppelwoi.

Some fest impressions…
