Thursday, May 22nd, 2008This afternoon we will leave for the Faore Islands and I plan on leaving some books there.
Some books are in German, some are in English.
If you have no use for it, then pass it on to someone else (school, library, friend, etc.).
Would be nice to meet some book finders and please leave a comment – any language will do – below.

Leaving for the Faroes soon
Saturday, May 17th, 2008
As my trip to the Faroes is only five days away, I am beginning to make a mental list of things to take. I have bought my souvenirs, got my ticket printed out, and of course consider my rain jacket to be the most valuable piece of clothing.
Check here for the weather update
Well, then I realized I had left my husband’s old rain jacket at a friend’s house on my last trip to Japan, so I asked my husband if I could borrow his. Then he confessed he had left his in Paris at his brother’s house, where he stayed for a few days while I was in Japan.
By now you might think we are globetrotters, which we aren’t. I had not been to Japan in 13 years after having spent the best three years of my life there (1992 – 1995) and my husband only went to Paris to visit family….
Well, I will be daring and go to the Faroes without one – a fleece jacket and an umbrella will have to make do.

The Faroe Islands
Thursday, March 6th, 2008While my trip to Japan is only four weeks away, I have already booked my next one and this time my flight will take me to the Faeroe Islands in May 2008.
Curious? The Faroe Islands are located 450 km south of Iceland and 322 km north of the Shetland Islands.
I would not be going there if I didn’t have a special reason, which is to visit a friend of mine I have not seen in 16 years. We met in the United States and then our ways parted as she was moving to Denmark and I was in the process of moving to Japan.
This will be a fantastic experience to get to know one part of the world where not many people have traveled before (except Ingmar Bergman, who had a recluse on one of the ten islands).
What do I expect? I don’t know. I imagine it to be windy, experience four long days of daylight in May, eat seafood, and have a good reunion with my dear friend Mariann.
The link A comprehensive introduction to the Faroes (Faeroe Islands) I found very useful and interesting.
With Lufthansa I will fly to Kopenhagen/Denmark and with the largest Faroese airline, Atlantic Airways, I will make it to the Faroes.
Have you ever been there? Do you know anyone who has ever been there? Would you like to travel there? Leave a comment!

Edit: An attentive reader pointed out the following – Ingmar Bergman was a recluse on Fårö, an island off the coast of Sweden, not the Faroe Islands. The Faroes are made up of 18 islands, not 10 as previously stated.
